This trio of bands—Spider Goat Canyon, Bear The Mammoth, and Stigg—delivers a mind-bending, heavy-riffing, and atmospheric journey perfect for fans of space-rock, instrumental prog, and fuzzy psych.
Spider Goat Canyon (Instrumental Psych/Space Rock): Straight out of Melbourne, this trio (often featuring collaborations) creates improvised, sonic soundscapes packed with gargantuan riffs, 70s space-rock vibes, and an intense, "always the heavy" mentality. Their 2025 album Vozvrat Kirpicha continues their tradition of long-form, psychedelic, and heavy improvisations.
Bear The Mammoth (Progressive Post-Rock): Known for their intricate songwriting, this Melbourne/Bendigo band crafts instrumental post-rock that blends math-rock complexities with heavy, fuzzed-out distortion. Their 2023 alkbum, Purple Haus, is a "synth-heavy" and emotional journey, featuring lush soundscapes that range from "weightless as a cloud" to "grounded as an earthquake".
Stigg (Sludge/Math Stoner Rock): A Melbourne-based, high-energy force that brings a mix of sludgy, angular, and sometimes mathy, fuzzed-out rock to the stage. They are known for providing a raw, intense, and atmospheric experience. Forthcoming EP coming soon.
