After winning Best Folk Work at the 2023 Music Victoria Awards for her recent album Into The Blue, and touring her acoustic EP 'Yearning' to Australian festivals, Lucy Wise is unveiling new songs and a new band lineup at this intimate afternoon show.
Effortlessly blending acoustic, traditional folk, roots and pop sounds, Lucy Wise is a folk singer-songwriter with a voice that pulls hearts out from the shadows. Lucy masterfully articulates the things we don't often say aloud, describing in rich detail what it's like to live in the world at this particular time. Lucy's warm stage presence invites the listener in, her intricate guitar work providing a vibrant backdrop. Brimming with heart, Lucy is a captivating performer.
Lucy's band combines the brilliance of Isaac Gunnoo on bass and backing vocals, Flora Carbo on saxophone and Justin Olsson on drums. Starting out the afternoon will be a special solo performance from alt-folk singer-songwriter, Mel Taylor.
Mel Taylor forged her sound in Victoria’s High Country, possessing a compelling voice and lyrical knack for storytelling that is authentically Australian. She weaves heartbreaking melodies that soar above her acoustic guitar. Taylor’s latest single ‘Remember Who You Are’ was shortlisted in the 2021 Australian Folk Music Awards and is the first offering from her debut album currently in the works proudly supported by APRA.
